Biggest PingPongParkinson(R) World Championship Yet. Thank you Austria!
The PingPongParkinson® World Championship 2023 has come to an end. What a tournament it was!
New world champions emerged and former champions re-positioned. This was so far the most competitive world championship and with plenty of surprises.
We would like to celebrate all players for their determination and congratulate the medalists who took the podium.
Matches begun on September 26th, 2023 and concluded on Saturday, September 30th, 2023 where the fierce finals were held. Find a listing of all winners here.
The highlights were the world champions, Thorsten Fleus & Ilya Rozenblat, both title holders in 2021 and 2022 respectively who contested for the Men’s singles class 1 first place in jaw dropping fashion. They are also the only players who have already won three titles at previous world championships.
Rie Koyama similarly cannot fail to be mentioned as she remained undefeated through all matches, keen to defend her 2022 win in the Women’s singles class 1. With unmatched scores, she took home the gold medal once again.
Silke Kind surprisingly emerged with three medals in class 1, Women’s singles, Mixed doubles and Women’s doubles paired with Thorsten Fleus & Gabi Salingré respectively.
And yet again the Danish dynamites Jesper Jerslund & Peter Derheld hotly contested for the gold in the Men’s doubles class 1 but gave in to their German arch-rivals duo of Thorsten Boomhuis & Thorsten Fleus.

Remembering our dearly departed friends during PPPWC 2023
For people living with a condition that has no cure yet, we know very well how fragile life is, and we continue in the fight even as we hope we are examples to the world that the fear of parkinson can be defeated - we do this daily. But when fate decides to act, then with grace one takes a bow. This year during the championship, we took some moments of silence to salute in loving memory our departed friends:
Antonio Perrone from Italy (1939 - 2023) - May he rest in peace. To family and friends we would like to express our deepest condolences.
Ronnie Gilboa from Israel (1956 - 2023) - “ I believe in the power of the one. This individual who can make our society better, more just - and even healthier ". Ronnie Gilboa, 2018.
Angela Hagman from Sweden (1956 - 2022) - Angela was a positive, sweet, happy, caring and popular person.
Mirko Kozar from Slovenia (1954 - 2020) - Mirko was a big fighter at the ping pong table. With his humor he brought good mood in our group. He was a great man & our best friend. We did not expect him to give up. Mirko, you will always be in our hearts and memory.
Edmur Mesquita from Brazil (1954 - 2020) - Edmur’s time among us was short, his impact was profound. He demonstrated that the human spirit can triumph over physical limitations, leaving an enduring legacy of resilience, elegance and unwavering determination. In the world of table tennis and the fight against Parkinsons, Edmur Mesquita in our hearts you’ll stay.
